What are some activities or workshops you provided your employees to boost team morale, encourage productivity, and team collaboration?

At our Agency, we do a variety of things. We have an Employee Appreciation day annually, where the Agency message is conveyed. The year long accomplishments are proudly celebrated and random drawings are provided for employees to receive.

There are department seminars offered annually where the "team ownership" concept is emphasized.

We also do an annual report, monthly newsletters and an annual meeting to unite the agency,

Our company has a program called "On The Spot Recognition". We award people based on great moments in Innovation, Service, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence. When someone does something within these categories that deserves to be recognized, they are given a small token that represents one of those five areas (Innovation is a foam lightbulb) a certificate, and recognition company wide through our intranet and at a staff meeting. At first I thought it was kind of hokey, but it is amazing how people have gotten on board and are proud of their achievements.

My company has a program called "Depend on Me" (DOM). The DOM program allows each department, i.e. Building Management, Engineering, Parking, Security and Janitorial, to reward employees on a monthly or quarterly basis depending on the size of the staff. The employee of the month or quarter is given a gift certificate and recognized in front of the rest of the staff. The employee's name is also placed on a plaque for the Outstanding Employees for the month and year of the award. We also give small rewards, such as movie tickets, See's candy, etc., to employees that receive complements from tenants or other employees on a special service provided. Lastly, although our company is not having a tenant holiday event, we are still having an end-of-year event for the building staff to show our appreciation for their dedication.

I feel that boosting team morale and encouraging productivity is important within a company. Using creative ways to bring new life to its employees has some significant benefits. Some people are highly motivated by such efforts. Other, less recognized employees, can be encouraged to continue their stellar service to the company.
Unfortunately, I've also seen that some people play the system to their advantage, or to their friends (within the firm) advantage. They provide "at a boys" to employees for things that are not that extraordinary. These programs, and incentives, should be carefully monitored by management to insure that the recognition is properly deserved.
What other ways have been used, without some of the abuses noted, to recognize the quiet unsung heroes within the firm to obtain the desired result of increased productivity / boosting team morale?

The business owners at my organization will once in a while buy lunch on Fridays. I thought that was extremely nice of them. Another booster, that I thought was helpful and unique was when our server was having trouble backing up our data on the main software. The CEO started giving a $ 25.00 gift card for lunch to the first employee to report the system not backing up. The incentive made some employees come in earlier to work and also pay more attention to the software.

I recently had lunch with employees where we spoke only of successes and good ideas. We spend so much time on customer issues, complaints, which are often negative. The negative can be easier to remember. I focused the lunch on celebrating our successes.

We do a series of "Pep Rallies" each year where the EVP, regional supervisors, director of maintenance, and a couple other corporate support staff members from training and IT tour around for a few weeks and visit each region. Last Fall we did outdoor picnics and had a cup-stacking team-building exercise. All employees received gift cards, and the winning properties received trophies and recognition in the employee newsletter. People still talk about how much fun it was and how nice it was to get together with team members from other properties and corporate that they don't get to see very often.

We set small goals each week and post a bar chart to color in showing how close we are to the goal such as getting 10 residents to post on the facebook fan page. The staff likes the visual immage of the bar chart. if we make the goal then the company picks up the tab for Friday icecream from Rita's. If not, then we have to chip in. We get ice cream either way, but it is more safisfing if it is free.

This is such an important discussion, since the down turn in the ecomnomy may of us are not receiving the the monetary benefits that we would like. Having something in place to make employees feel appreciated is vital to the sucess of that organization. Happy employees work hard and employees who feel appreciated will work even harder.

During the summer months (between Memorial Day and Labor Day), we have summer hours and close the office at noon on Fridays. We have found that the teams are much more productive during the summer because they have something to look forward to. As a result of the success of this program and the clear commitment of the corporate team to get the job done, we have recently introduced an addition to the policy and the office closes at three on Fridays between labor day and memorial day.

Building a team is key in any sales environment. I believe happy employees are productive employees. Team building activities are so important with regards to creating successful teams. At least every other month we get together as a portfolio and do some sort of team building activity. Each property is a team and there is always a winner. Not only does this get each team to better know one another and count on their "partner" to perform in their required role, but it also creates a bit of competition between the teams forcing those necessary sales related skills to emerge. Let's face it, we are in the sales business and all employees play a role in getting and keeping our much needed residents.

I agree that boosting team morale and encouraging productivity is very important. Our company uses a variety of methods. Individuals or groups that have great ideas have the ideas and their names posted on our intranet site. They are also posted on a bulletin board at our corporate office. Lunches, ice cream parties, gift cards and thank you notes are also items we use. Annually, we have a party for all employees. It is held on a work day. Offices are closed and employees are paid for working even though they are attending the party. The location and theme varies each year, but in addition to food and fun, awards are presented to groups and individuals for outstanding performance in various categories. Most awards are serious, but there are always a few "Fun" ones given to upper management. I really like reading the other posts and getting ideas of new methods for us to try.

There are many great ideas here and I'll come back to get some fresh ideas in time. I thought I would post something that we do. We do what's called a "Kick Ass" award. We actually found a statue of donkey for the award.

I do several things to boost team morale, encourage productivity. The most important thing I do is to continually emphasize that we are a TEAM first and foremost, that each of us contributes, no one person gets singular credit for our success. In this way, a continual team focus is achieved, not a hierarchy.
I also think it is important to bring the team together as much as possible for positive, team building functions, whether it is a breakfast or lunch function, or, as a company, quarterly get togethers like bowling parties, or themed events. This enables camraderie as well as it helps for employees within the company who do not get to see one another on a daily basis to come together.
