Question from John Bennett:
"We recently converted our e-mail platform from Outlook to GroupWise because our outside network consultants sold us on the merits of GroupWise's collaboration and e-mail management capabilities. Staff has struggled with some of the the functional and user friendliness differences between GroupWise and Outlook. Anyone out there made this conversation and have opinions or advice to offer? "

John,
I am sorry but I am not familiar with the software product you are referring to, GroupWise.
I am familiar with and have used Outlook for years in many platforms including as a stripped down version , A PC based product and a ASP application "Outlook WEB Access" .
I will investigate to see if anyone has knowledge or experience with GroupWise in our IT department .
Tony

If you use a Novell network as your backbone, then you made a good decision to standardize with GroupWise. I know we looked at it moons ago, but decided against it as it didn't work with a Blackberry very well. Has that changed?

The company I was with before moving to this one used Lotus Notes. It worked very well and the blackberrys had an ok time with it. It's kind of complicated for new users and "non techie" people.
The company i'm with now gave me full control of IT. (yay me) So I moved away from proprietary software as much as possible. We use Open Office instead of Microsoft and we just bought a hosting package with email. Then I built a groupware app online ( i can do that). We use that for everything from scheduling to collaboration. I'm working on adding a word processor and spreadsheet to that but that's a lot of code and my time is limited these days.
I use PHP mostly and I added a feature to the groupware which allows emailing from inside the groupware. They basically use the same email info as they do in Thunderbird (hate outlook). So far to date I have had no security issues and no glitches since I went live two years ago.

When I was reading my important mail, accidentally my computer went off.Fortunately I knew about next tool-recovering data from ost file. And it helped me very fast, besides that utility has free status as is known, and it can likewise restore data from files with *.ost extension.

I would say that in recent times, people are moving towards outlook instead of groupwise. Exchange outlook due to its easy to use features and functions has become popular amongst users where outlook requires less training sessions than groupwise.
Moreover, Outlook Web Access has provided users with new benefits and ease of email accessibility. It sounds like moving from a new era to old era of email management.
Migration from groupwise to outlook take time and resources and after that too, companies need to train their people on working with GroupWise email management. It doesnt happens with exchange outlook working. The exchange server when configured provides easy working features with MS Outlook client. users need less of training as outlook is a popular email management program widely used by users.
With such email management techniques, market has been overflowed with groupwise to outlook migration tools. These third party applications help to achieve accurate and reliable migration of user mailboxes. You can find them by googling over for keywords like groupwise to exchange migration, groupwise to outlook migration, groupwise to pst migration and much more....
Kernel for Novell GroupWise to Exchange Server migration software is one such tool for effective and accurate migration of user mailboxes. Visit the site and blog for more information:
