NYC office buildings pricey, not green

"New York office buildings are wasting energy left and right, be it through outdated elevators, lights that don’t automatically shut off or lack of automatic climate control, according to an IBM study released Thursday.
Even worse, New York City, which tops the nation in average rents, was in a tie for fifth place—behind Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Atlanta—in terms of the energy efficiency of its office buildings.
Nationwide, 70% of all electricity is consumed by buildings, and up to half of that is simply being wasted, according to the survey."
