"Housing availability for the country's poorest seniors will rank among the most pressing issues in the years to come, according to housing experts.
One in six people will be aged 65 or older in 2020 compared to the current ratio of one in 12, according to a congressional study conducted earlier in the decade by a commission on affordable housing and health needs for seniors."

Good article.!!Affordable housing is necessary in many areas, but we have to be careful not to over-sarurate some regions.
IIn our area this is not so true, many of my colleagues are having difficulty in renting their vacant units. Seniors in the 62 to late 70's range are not clamoring to give up their homes for affordable housing units. Vacancy has become a real issue in our area. We are seeing seniors coming in older and frailer, many should be going to assisted living facilities but are first renting an apartment. I think this trend will continue as the boomers will expect more in terms of amenities and services.
Very good article. there is a lack of affordable housing not just for seniors all over especially in larger cities. I wonder if larger apartment buildings could subsidize a small percentage of there market rate buildings to seniors ? would that then be considered a section 8 building? I know many owners and companies don't want to be stigmatized with being known as section 8, or called affordable housing. I have more questons and comments about affordable housing but don't want to rant on.
Affordable Senior Housing is in great demand. The key word "affordable". Most rental rates are at maximum rent levels and are out of reach for the average senior. Developers need to be mindful of this when considerin a senior community.
This brief article highlights the future availability (or lack there of) for affordable housing dedicated solely to seniors. The present outlook is that there will be need that availability. The current administration is dedicated to affordable housing, including public housing.
